When an innovative furniture removal company in Clayton, Victoria looked to expand their fleet of vehicles, Isuzu's FRR 600 provided the right horse power and comfort to get the job done.

MetroMovers Director, Peter Borain, has come a long way from a one truck operation he started eight years ago.

Now boasting a fleet of 16 vehicles, 22 drivers and eight support staff, this burgeoning removals operation conducts between 80 to 100 moves each week.

Newcomers to the Isuzu brand, MetroMovers recently took ownership of six FRR 600s.

"The operators love driving Isuzu trucks," Mr Borain said.

"They like them so much they're unhappy driving anything else but the Isuzus."

Mr Borain attributes the switch from other truck manufacturers to Isuzu's great emissions credentials and automated manual transmission (AMT).

"We changed to Isuzu because we like the idea of having clean burning trucks," Mr Borain said.

"Our core business is predominantly driving in metropolitan areas, so we have a responsibility to reduce emissions - we don't use old vehicles for this reason."

Besides reducing maintenance costs, the AMT assists the company to minimise damage to freight and enhances driver comfort.

"As a metropolitan-based business, drivers are in and out of traffic and tight situations moving items that are quite fragile," Mr Borain said.

"It's a smoother drive with an automated gearbox and so much more comfortable for staff."

According to Mr Borain, the AMT also assists drivers when they are backing into driveways, going up steep embankments and negotiating constrained areas.

"In these situations, the hill start aid along with the AMT definitely helps, and because it's all automated they can better concentrate on reversing their vehicle."

All vehicles purchased by the company are fitted with premium pack upgrades which include the AMT and auto control air-conditioning, while a chrome grille further lifts the trucks' appearance.

The company says satellite navigation and Bluetooth technology (enabling drivers to talk hands-free) are additional features contributing to driver comfort and safety. Extra space in the cabin is useful for storing medical supplies and personal items.

The trucks have also had the added benefit of making driver training easier.

"The AMT in the FRR 600 means developing and training drivers is much quicker and easier as well, they're smoother on the vehicle because they've got less to worry about."

With his sights firmly set on expansion early next year, Mr Borain is already looking to use Isuzu models exclusively in New South Wales.
